Q&A With BloggersInspiringChange.org Creator Lee Allport!

Lee Allport Bloggers Inspiring Change

Lee Allport

Creators of the Environmental site BloggersInspiringChange.org took turns interviewing one another about why they decided to take on such a time consuming yet heart warming project. Here is what Lee from the Nielsen Power Mom blog MySentimentExactLee.com and EntertainmentExactLee.com had to say.

Marianna: So how did BloggersInspiringChange come about?

Lee: Whoa, okay slow down. You’ve gotta go back in time for that question. It all started with the movie Avengers, because with me doesn’t everything start with Entertainment?

I’d never paid Mark Ruffalo much attention, however I saw this movie and kind of felt he made the movie work. So being the Entertainment writer I am I started studying up on him. I found out he had this huge cause, Anti Fracking. I had no idea what this was so I asked my husband. He knew exactly what it was and explained it to me. Except Tim had a bit of a different take on it than Mark.

Turns out all of our Dryden, New York property was in danger of being Fracked but our town was able to uphold a ban on it which was a huge deal. They were the first to do such a thing.

I immersed myself in research about all of this and it just made me sick. I educated myself on the pros and cons (because there are some of both unfortunately) and made the decision myself that I was definitely against Fracking.

I felt that since I have this influential voice and a vested interest in something important for once I could help. So that is what I’m trying to do.

Marianna: So then you created the site?

Lee: In theory. First I approached you. I knew I wanted a green partner and I wanted to approach Mark and his team. Then I decided I wanted some bloggers actually dealing with the issue at hand so I found Alison, Kimberly and Nichol. That’s when BloggersInspiringChange.org kind of came to light. It was a whirlwind as you know. I did approach WaterDefense but they are too busy to work with us at this time. Hopefully we can collaborate with them in the future.

Marianna: Then you decided to pull all your Hollywood connection strings and chase down Ed Begley Jr.?

Lee: Well my good friend Raphael Sbarge stars on the show Once Upon A Time. I’ve worked with him in the past on his charitable organization Green Wish. I called him up and asked if he’d like to work with me on a PSA regarding Anti-Fracking and he was on board right away. He works closely with Ed Begley Jr so I think it was a matter of a simple phone call and Ed was on board.

Marianna: But we still couldn’t pin down The Hulk? You obviously aren’t that connected Lee.

Lee: Thanks Marianna, I try. No I still couldn’t wrangle Mark. But hey, he’s a busy guy and maybe after he sees some of the awesome stuff we’re doing he’ll come on board. Besides, you’re the one who loves him so much. Technically speaking if we were doing this for Hollywood movie stars attention I’d be in Afghanistan clearing mines with Jeremy Renner. We’ve made some really great Environmental connections during this amazing journey like the moms from ErieRising.com who are participating in the PSA. These are the people who are living the affects of Fracking, these are the people who I am really interested in meeting and working with.

Marianna: Good point. Where do you see BloggersInspiringChange.org going in the future?

Lee: I’d like to see members of the group speak at conferences, peaceful rallies and such things about the way people can help make this world a better place with a lighter footprint. As moms the four of us know how everything has to start small. Whether it’s just starting to recycle or making a quick call to a local Senator/Governor about a matter affecting your community. These little things can snowball into bigger things and really make a difference. You know what Ghandi said “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I truly agree with that.

Marianna: So besides Fracking what are your other Environmental interests?

Lee: So many. I plan to work more on Green Wish with Raphael and Ed of course. I want to do more research into renewable energy. It seems to me we’re sitting on a lot resources that are going to waste and I’m confused by this. Mainly because I haven’t done my research. Unfortunately I don’t come from a place in my life where anyone has a strong interest in such things so it doesn’t come naturally to me. I have to really seek out this information. After I find it I have to fight to retain it and use it and practice it. I think I’m going to fight to live On Begley Street. 😉

This is great, it’s awesome to see a group of bloggers who usually concentrate on product reviews coming together to use their voices to inspire people to help our planet! Keep it up ladies, I’ll be here to support you every step of the way.

This is great! I love how you are using your influence for good. Best of luck!

  3. it is great you all are working on this. I am into being green and keeping our children healthy. I think a sick planet is making for a very sick population and we need to step up and stop the madness now. Too many people suffer from serious illnesses such as asthma, allergies, autism, ADHD, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Fibromialgia, Parkinsons, and I think all of these are related to the foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the general crap that is around us all the time. And I know that we are a capitalist country, so money talks, and unfortunately those groups that are doing the polluting have all the money. This has to be a grass roots movement, moms and dads, kids, everyone needs to have their eyes opened to really make a difference.

  4. Nichol says:

I’m so glad I was asked about this and hope to be able to help in any way possible. I think it is a wonderful cause. We need voice to get heard and BloggersInspiringChange I feel can do that!
